On-Request Disc In
addition to our extensive current Catalog of music, HensTooth Discs can provide
discs of virtually any new tune you want, for several types and sizes of Musical
Boxes. We
often receive inquiries for special music from persons who do not already own
a Disc Music Box, and who wish to learn more about the various options available.
If you would like to know more about the various types of Music Boxes for which
we can provide custom discs, please skip down to the next
section. For
those of you who already know which type/size of Disc you need, here is some important
information: Prices: Custom
Thorens/Reuge Compatible 4.5" Disc - $16 (no added charge for custom)
to $89, depending upon saleability of additional discs*. S&H $3.50 for first
disc, $1 each additional disc. Custom
Mr. Christmas Compatible 4.75" Metal Disc - $16 (no added charge for
custom) to $89, depending upon saleability of additional discs*. S&H $3.50
for first disc, $1 each additional disc. Regina/Polyphon
(type) 15.5" Disc - $55 (no added charge for custom) to $395, depending
upon saleability of additional discs*. S&H $8 for first disc, $1 each additional

If the music desired is better-known and it is likely we can sell additional discs
of the selection, the price will be at the lower end of price range. Additional
Information: Music
from any source may be requested. You may even provide original music you have
written yourself. VERY
IMPORTANT: If the music you request is under copyright protection, permission
from the copyright owner is required before we can produce a disc for you. There
are two ways we can do this:
1/ HensTooth Discs can file for permission from
the copyright owner or agent. The fee for this is $80 billable to customer.
2/ We can produce a disc for you as a "work for hire". Under this arrangement,
you (the customer) are responsible for obtaining the necessary permission from
the copyright owner.
If
you do not already own a Disc Musical Box, here are some things to keep in mind: 1/
Disc music boxes vary greatly in price, availability, and ability to play more
complex arrangements.
I usually recommend one of two types, either a Thorens
4.5" or a Regina/Polyphon 15.5" disc music box. There are other types,
but these two represent either ends of the possibilities in terms of these additional
considerations: 2/
Length of playing time: The Thorens can play approx. 26 seconds of music (before
repeating). The 15.5" Regina/Polyphon can play approx. 1 minute.
3/ Complexity of the music: The Thorens has a much more limited pitch range, and
can play only simpler arrangements. (You can hear some examples HERE.)
4/ Associated Costs: As mentioned, disc music boxes vary greatly in price.
An old Thorens (no longer made but available on Ebay) can be found in the $100
- $300 dollar range, and a new Reuge disc music box is sold by Reuge of Switzerland
for approx $1600.
15.5" Reginas/Polyphons are no longer made, but can
be found on Ebay in the $2000 - $6000 range.
